We were absolutely spoiled last week during Teacher Appreciation! Thanks to all that sent in sweet treats, thoughtful cards (some were even homemade!), and other gifts and gift cards. We feel very fortunate to be thought of so highly! Thank you MORE for supporting us all year long with the work you do with your children at home. This team makes us #SalemProud!
END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES
As we approach the final weeks of sixth grade, we have many fun and educational opportunities planned for the students. Please read the EOYA Note that students received and contact your child's homeroom teacher with questions. We truly look forward to celebrating and commemorating your child's growth this year!
New Law of the Land
As EOGs approach and we learn of the testing rules and procedures, the team has decided to outlaw spinners, goo, stress balls, and all the other trinkets that have saturated the classrooms in the past quarter. These are to be kept at home for the remainder of the school year.
Because these items are strictly prohibited during testing, students must practice coping with test stress and environmental factors using what is available and allowed. Likewise, teachers have noted an increased distraction level with students carrying them. Therefore, they are not achieving the advertised outcome.
Students have been strictly instructed to leave all such products at home. They are not allowed at school. If a student accidentally brings one to school, it must be locked up for the entirety of the day. A student having any of the aforementioned products will be assigned a consequence which may result in a loss of privileges.
Feel free to use them at home as much as you want.
Thank you for your help in getting the students prepared for EOGs and helping them learn to cope with stress in other ways.
June 7: End of Year Awards Celebration
On Wednesday, June 7, we'll celebrate the end of first year by distributing team and honor roll certificates beginning at 11 am in the auditorium. All families and friends of the 6-1 students are welcome to come.
Students that are getting checked out after the awards may do so in the auditorium using the teacher sign out that will be available. Also, students that have siblings on other grade levels may attend those awards assemblies IF a parent is present and grants permission. Please supply a written note to make teachers aware.
Whether you're able to come or not, we look forward to celebrating with you the progress the 6-1 kids have made during this special time of year!
Field Trip to Jordan Lake
We are taking a field trip to Jordan Lake on June 2. Information about the trip and permission slips were sent home today. Please read through the notes and let us know if you have any questions.
