May 12th Beach Field Trip
Students will be taking a field trip to Beaufort and Shackleford Banks, completing a series of science and aquatic activities.
The trip will cost $85.00 per student, and the payment is due by Friday, April 29th. Families can pay online using the link below, however, there is a convenience fee charged. If you’d prefer, you may send in a check (made payable to Salem Middle) or cash.

During the last weeks of quarter 3, students will be preparing to host Student-Led Conferences (SLC). Students will create a portfolio of school data and work, learn about their testing growth and expectations for upcoming EOGs, and rehearse speaking on their strengths and areas for improvement.
SLC will be held on February 29, March 1, March 2, and March 3. Time slots available are from 8:15-8:30 AM and 8:30-8:45 AM. Each conference will last approximately 10 minutes. Attendance is strongly recommended.

Congratulations to Shreya Shenoy!
Shreya Shenoy is the SCHOOL WINNER of the 2016 Spelling Bee! She competed against other 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on January 13, and correctly spelled a series of VERY difficult words. Shreya will go on to compete in the state competition. Good luck to Shreya, and thanks to all that participated!

Jonathan Song is the SCHOOL WINNER of the 2016 Geography Bee! He competed against other 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on January 12, and answered a series of difficult questions about geography, history, and culture of the world. Students have the opportunity to rework or retake assessments that score a 70% or lower (for MOST classes). If an assessment qualifies, a "reworks sheet" will be stapled to the paper and will have an expiration date stamped on it. The "reworks sheet" MUST be completed IN FULL by the expiration date and signed by an adult in the family. Reworks MUST be completed within 5 school days.
